Cardiff Primary Schools Scheme

F P Hurley were awarded the contract to provide the mechanical services for three new-build primary schools in Cardiff:

  • Hamadryad in Butetown, contract value: £700,000
  • Glan Morfa in Splott, contract value: £625,000
  • Howardian School in Penylan, contract value: £700,000

Each school consists of two storeys and accommodates up to 500 pupils with 48 full-time nursery places. The schools provide highly sought after Welsh medium places in Cardiff.

The three schools are very similar in construction, with the exception of Hamadryad school’s additional changing block on the side elevation which allows students to make use of the sports facilities at Hamadryad Park. Each school will provide a comfortable and modern learning environment, with SENCO and quiet rooms within each nursery department. The schools are also designed with community use in mind, providing multi-use games areas and function rooms available for hire.

The schools incorporate high standards of energy efficiency and sustainability. Each school achieved both BREEAM Excellent and an EPC A rating.
