Six Bells Primary School, Abertillery

Contract Value: £600,000

Main Contractor: Morgan Sindall

Client: Blaenau Gwent CBC

F P Hurley were awarded the £600,000 mechanical package to deliver the new build Six Bells Primary School in Abertillery, under contract to Morgan Sindall. The construction is part of Blaenau Gwent’s 21st Century Schools Programme, and the new school will welcome pupils from the Bryngwyn and Queen Street campuses of the Abertillery Learning Community.

The project was delivered to BIM Level 2, with our internal design department providing design input to update the model as the installation progressed. The mechanical services for the build included LTHW heating serving an underfloor heating system via two high-efficiency condensing boilers, a domestic hot water system served by a gas-fired water heater, boosted mains water distribution system, above-ground drainage and sanitaryware. Ventilation was also provided through a mechanical ventilation system including kitchen supply and extraction ventilation, in addition to a natural ventilation strategy via crossflow attenuators and motorised windows.

An impressive feature of the mechanical installation is the comprehensive BMS controls installation designed to control heating, mechanical and natural ventilation in synchronization.
