Our History

Founded in 1949, we have celebrated over 75 years of providing a quality of service that is second to none.

We are proud of the longevity, continued growth and success, which we owe to our commitment to do business in a way that facilitates trust and respect. We have grown from a small mechanical building services contractor to one of the most respected and trusted building services partners in Wales and Southern England.

It all began in 1949 when our founder, Frank Hurley, established the Company in Mid Glamorgan, South Wales. Spanning over three generations, F P Hurley has always been a family run business. The business was taken on by Frank Hurley’s son, Leonard Hurley, who later handed it over to his brother Malcolm Hurley. In 2000, Phillip Hurley became Managing Director for seventeen years, until Adrian Hurley took up the position in 2017.

Although the family traditions permeate through the Company, we have built up a reputation as one of the region’s leading building services provider through our innovative ways of working, use of the latest technology and investment in our people.

Geographical Expansion

Initially, the company operated from a small site in Ewenny in Mid Glamorgan, before moving to a purpose-built site on Bridgend Industrial Estate in the mid-1950s. This represented a key milestone for the business and the office remains as our headquarters today. The 1980s saw further expansion with the opening of the Cross Hands office in Carmarthenshire, confirming our strong presence in Wales. The business continued to grow steadily over the following decades and in 2007 the Company opened a third office in Newport. This office later relocated to Portishead in Bristol in 2015, as we expanded our presence and capabilities in Southern England. The region was a successful growth area for the business and the Bristol office went from strength to strength in the years that followed. We continued to expand our presence and successfully secured large projects in areas such as Norwich, Medway, Reading, Portsmouth and London. In 2017 a fourth office in Exeter was established to cement our success in Southern England, and to build on the new business opportunities the region offers.
