F P Hurley, in partnership with Oriel Design Ltd, celebrated national recognition when Y Pavilion picked up the two awards. The awards are indicative of our ability to provide innovative and outstanding M&E design executed to BIM Level 2.

Low Energy Systems

An outstanding feature of the project is the design of its ventilation system, which is based on a mixed-mode strategy. This means that the system can react to different levels of occupancy and maintain a fresh, clean environment. The system starts in a natural ventilation mode which is achieved by roof-mounted heat recovery inlets delivering air during day to day operation. In addition to this, there is a mechanical fan-driven system which supplies air when the natural ventilation system starts to struggle. This means that the operation of the system is kept in low energy use for most of the year. It also features heat recovery on both the natural and mechanically driven systems which recovers heat from the air being dumped to atmosphere. What's more, the lighting systems are all low energy, with solar glazing which reduces the requirement for summertime cooling while maintaining as much natural light as possible.
