Prince Charles Hospital Ward Refurbishment, Merthyr Tydfil

Contract Value: £9 million

Main Contractor:  Willmott Dixon

Client: Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB

Our largest project to date was in healthcare: a multi-phase, twelve-ward hospital refurbishment programme at £9m over a four year period, delivered at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. The works involved the refurbishment and upgrading of existing ward layouts on the second, third and fourth floors to provide a modern, 24-bed layout configurations fit for purpose and suitable for modern-day healthcare.

Four new rooftop plant rooms were constructed by the main contractor to house the new plant and equipment which operates the newly refurbished ward areas. New heating, domestic hot and cold water services, as well as new medical gases were extended from the existing Energy Centre across to the main hospital to serve the new ward areas. Project challenges included a complete asbestos strip, followed by the stripping out of services.
