Newsletter

A Message from our MD

Welcome to the first edition of the company Newsletter. It’s purpose is to inform you, recognise, congratulate and celebrate individuals and teams, announce key events in the past and upcoming in the future and generally seek to engage you in the wider development of the business. Claire has agreed to undertake this task and deserves our thanks for the time and effort she puts in to ensuring the quality of the product.

We will soon be returning to the offices in larger numbers adding more colour and vibrancy to our working environment. This should be good for us all and I look forward to seeing you.

Director Gerwyn Davies Retires

After more than 30 years with the company and 9 years as a director, Gerwyn Davies has retired from F P Hurley. Gerwyn has been a loyal servant during his time with the company and has been instrumental in taking us into the major league when handling the larger projects which were offered to us such as Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg in Church Village and new hospitals in Newbury and St David’s in Cardiff. He has performed his duties with a cheerful outlook and has been ready to help out whenever required. He has always been proactive, professional and become highly respected and, through his personality, has developed many close relationships with likeminded people across the broad spectrum of the construction industry. It is through such friendships that we have been able to grow the business and carry out repeat contracts with the likes of the South Wales Police over many years. Gerwyn has been a pleasure to have around the office and has formed friendships with many of us that will endure long after his departure. We all have a lot to thank you for, Gerwyn. You will be sorely missed.

Recognising Outstanding Customer Service

Delivering excellent customer service is an important part of the F P Hurley offering and the dedication and commitment of our site teams is often recognised by clients. F P Hurley acknowledges the highest levels of service and the desire to strive for positive engagement and this is something that should be shared and celebrated. A number of our site teams have been recently commended for their professional, friendly and can-do attitude.

Ysgol Tywyn – Neath Port Talbot County Council

All parties were delighted with the recent work at Ysgol Tywyn in Aberavon recently, with high praise received by the client representative at Neath Port Talbot County Council.

“Credit must also be given to Neil Higgins, John Eagle and the entire site team of F P Hurley for taking this job on at such a short notice and completing all internal work in ten days with no disruption to the school and to an excellent standard. Also credit must be given to their cleaning of the school before it was handed over to our cleaners. It is good to have the confidence in a contractor to enable us to meet all our objectives.”

Thank you Marc Davies, Andrew Teall, Richard Duckfield, Sam Spearing, Andrew Watson, Lee Harben-Jones, Elliott Teall and Matthew Duckfield for your outstanding work ethic.

“I wanted to pass on my sincere thanks to our contractors (F P Hurley) who are fitting the new boilers etc in the SARC. They have been working around the LFD testing centres hours which has meant lots happening at unsociable hours for them and even weekends if needed. Throughout their time with us they have remained flexible and put simply they have been a pleasure to have in and around the building. Staff are also extremely friendly and although the work has been extensive nothing is ever too much trouble for them.”

Social Value- Our Contribution to Society

We are pleased to announce that a small team of individuals within the Company have been tasked with shaping and strengthening our social value offering within the business. Social value is certainly a broad and rapidly maturing area, but ultimately it can be loosely defined as anything that improves the quality of life for those in the communities in which we operate. It is concerned with enhancing the well-being and resilience of our communities, from providing good job opportunities to local people, quality training and investment in our people, to engaging with voluntary and community organisations to deliver impactful interventions that make a long and lasting difference.

At F P Hurley we want to positively shape and improve the communities we operate in, bringing them long-term benefits whilst leaving a positive legacy. We want to create a culture where our people feel proud to give something back to our communities and feel inspired to invest their time and resources to deliver additional social, economic and environmental benefits. Our social value team, which is made up of Claire Pilcher, Kevin Davison and Ian Lewis, will begin their social value journey through focusing on key commitments:

  • We aim to have a positive impact on local communities through building relationships with clients, stakeholders and community organisations so we can understand what their social, economic and environmental priorities are.
  • Creating social value by focusing on future skills and employment, investing in local economies and pro-social companies, engaging with communities and delivering positive environmental impacts.
  • Donating business resources including employee time and skills, materials and funds to help tackle community issues.

We aim to think innovatively about what we can offer and seek to engage as many of you as possible to play a part. We welcome you to get in touch if you have any suggestions on how we can make a lasting impact in our communities, or if you have any social value opportunities associated with the delivery of your work.

The social value team can be reached on socialvalue@fphurley.co.uk

An 'Unbeelievable' Opportunity

As part of our commitment to enhance lives within the communities around us, we are excited to announce our involvement with Bee 1; an organisation established to address the decline in bees both locally and nationally.

The scheme, which is being driven by the company’s social value team, is known as Bee Friendly and is aimed at educating children on the importance of the world’s most important animals- bees. F P Hurley’s social value team is funding Cwmaber Primary School, Caerphilly, to take part in the educational scheme. Through Bee Friendly, the school will enjoy several exciting benefits, including adopting a beehive, receiving an eco-pack which contains curriculum resources, wildflower meadow seeds, bee and bug hotels, air quality monitor kit, visits from Bee 1’s beekeeper and their very own honey to taste, jar and label.
