Bristol Airport Executive Lounge

Main Contractor: John Perkins

Value: £480,000

Client: Bristol Airport

F P Hurley was responsible for delivering the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) building services for the new Executive Lounge at Bristol Airport, involving the refurbishment of an existing area within the departure terminal. The project aimed to significantly improve traveller comfort and wellbeing by creating a relaxing, luxurious environment. Awarded the contract by John Perkins, F P Hurley completed the works in January 2025, leading the design process from RIBA Stage 3.

The scope of work included the supply and installation of essential components such as a new Air Handling Unit (AHU), a chiller, and associated GRP housing. Key installations involved chilled water rooftop pipework connecting the chiller to the AHU, ensuring precise climate control within the lounge.

Mechanical services comprised ductwork, above-ground drainage, boosted cold water supply, thermal insulation, water metering, trace heating, and a Building Management System (BMS) for optimised operation. On the electrical front, the project involved installing new low-voltage sub-mains, mechanical power supplies, roof lighting, lightning protection, and the initial infrastructure for the lounge’s electrical needs, including meters, data cabling, and fire alarm systems.

One of the project’s unique challenges was its location airside within a live airport environment. This required strict security protocols for deliveries and personnel access, demanding careful planning and coordination to ensure seamless progress without disrupting airport operations. Close collaboration with Bristol Airport was essential throughout the project’s duration.
