Our Values

The building services industry is going through a period of significant change and challenges. In an era that requires dedicated and intensive innovation, we are embracing the changes and reinventing building services by making a commitment to the environment, the economy, collaboration with our communities and empowerment of our people. We are committed to working in a responsible manner which adds value to the client and the communities around us. We are continually improving our business and developing our culture to ensure we not only meet our customers’ expectations, but actually exceed them.

Quality

Fundamentally, the principle behind our processes is that we get it right first time. We aim to avoid the possibility of any defects by applying these processes from conception of the project through to the post-completion. We work hard to instil this philosophy into all our employees, including our supply chain. This allows us to create a collaborative environment which focuses on delivering the project on time and with zero defects. We strongly believe in direct employment which creates a company-wide passion for quality and a desire to fully integrate it within our organisational culture. Our Quality Management System, SQMAS, provides full use of quality checklists and documentation to record all checks. Our site manager will undertake checks at each stage to ensure outputs meet the specified quality standards and installation workmanship. Each project will have a Quality Inspection and Test Plan as well as a Defects Avoidance Plan. These will identify responsibilities, frequency of checking, method of checking and how quality is controlled. Our project teams are trained to ensure consistent use of our quality processes to increase the likelihood of zero defects at handover. We take full responsibility for the quality of our end product and give the same meticulous attention to the work of all our specialist subcontractors.

Community Benefits

We are committed to ensuring the wider social and economic issues are incorporated into the planning and delivery of our projects. We strive to create strong ties with the local community through collaboration with the public and our clients, using their knowledge of local issues to drive forward the community benefits for each project. We aim to make a real difference to the lives of the people local to the areas in which we work. This may be through employment and apprenticeship opportunities, or through community projects aimed at helping local charitable groups and organisations. Our Charity Committee leads our approach, providing charitable donations and sponsorship to worthy causes, as well as project managing our local community projects.

Sustainability and the Environment

We understand it is crucial for our business, economy and society that we commit to investing in sustainability and protecting the environment. Delivering sustainable design and energy-efficient services is at the heart of our approach. Our experienced teams can help clients meet their legislative requirements, deliver energy savings and offer the best value for money over the complete lifecycle of the system. We embed the principles of sustainability within our procurement activities to ensure that value for money products and services are selected with a balanced consideration of the environmental, social, ethical and economic impacts. Such commitment is integral to our BS8555 accredited Environmental Management System, through which we set targets to continually improve our performance. We are working hard to decouple carbon emissions from business growth by selecting electric and hybrid technology vehicles, investing in renewable energy and reducing waste. Through our Community Engagement and Volunteering Policy, we are encouraging our staff to participate in community activities that have a positive impact on the environment. This includes paid time off to attend volunteering opportunities such as conservation work and beach clean-ups.

Health and Safety

F P Hurley takes a positive and proactive attitude to safety on site, and through the 'Think Safe, Work Safe, Home Safe' initiative we ensure that safety is a priority consideration for every employee throughout our supply chain. Each project is resourced with a Site Manager trained in supervisory or management-level Health and Safety who will lead and support their co-workers in all aspects of health and safety. We are continuously striving to make the construction industry a safer environment by promoting a high level of engagement and communication along with the continuous management of health and safety. We maintain accreditations from several Safety Scheme In Procurement (SSIP) schemes, including CHAS, Constructionline Gold, SMAS and SafeContractor.
